You would think, in a city teeming with immaculately groomed people, that good hair salons would be easy to find in Paris. Why is it then, that if I had a euro for every time I’ve heard someone lament their latest Parisian hair experience, I’d be sinking my money into a Swiss bank account and retiring to Majorca? Enter Vee – a Dutch hairdresser who has set up shop on rue Jean Pierre Timbaud. From the second you walk in, you can see this is someone who cares about aesthetics – glowing vitrines on the wall display jewellery and clothes from fellow Dutch designers, and everything about the space, including the large centre table and industrial light-fittings, are customed designed. Vee works on her own, and personalises every step of the experience. Not only is she warm, interesting and great to talk to, she won’t judge you for not getting your hair cut for six months or indulging in that ‘seemed like a good idea at the time’ bleach job. Most importantly, she listens and understands that ‘a little bit off the ends’ is not code for minimum ten centimetres. Vee uses products from plant-focused brands Kevin Murphy and Davines, and gets the need for low maintenance hair-styles. In short, you can thank me later.
